- Take the time to remove the tick properly because improper removal can increase your risk of infection
- Grasp the tick with fine point tweezers as close to skin as possible
- Pull the tick straight out
- Disinfect the tick bite site
- Disinfect the tweezers
- Wash hands thoroughly
- Do not panic and remove with your fingers
- Do not burn or smother a tick
- Do not grasp, squeeze or twist the tick body
- Contact physician for information on testing and treatment
